What really happened between Beyoncé and Kanye at the exclusive LA show that made Kanye cry (video)

Beyonce doesn’t perform for just anyone.

Just days after wrapping her “On the Run II” tour with Jay Z, a shimmering Beyonce showed up at the City of Hope gala on Thursday night in Los Angeles for a powerful three-song set in honor of Warner/Chappell Music Chairman Jon Platt.

Pharrell hosted the night, which benefited City of Hope, an independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.

Jay Z was on hand, too, introducing Platt, the night’s Spirit of Life honoree, as his “brother” and “the Obama of the music industry.”

Then Bey took the stage, delivering a searing performance of “XO,” “Perfect” and “Halo” to a crowd of 1,200.

The performance happened the same day Kanye West made headlines from the Oval Office, where the rapper delivered on 10-minute soliloquy on how his MAGA hat made him “feel like Superman,” explained why he famously derided former President George W.

Bush as racist while defending President Donald Trump (“I was in a victim mentality”) and announced that he had been misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was actually merely sleep deprived.

West’s name seemed to hang in the air at the event, which was filled with industry luminaries from Quincy Jones to Dr. Dre, but his name was only formally invoked once.

When Platt took the stage, he singled out artists including Usher and Timbaland, calling them geniuses. The revered music CEO then recalled how Usher helped pave the way for younger artists – like West.

Just before Beyonce took the stage in a sparkly, feathered gown, Platt toasted her personally.

After watching her latest tour, “I was reminded even when you’re the biggest talent in world, it still comes down to hard work,” he said. “She leads by example. She shows all of us how to dream big.”
