Paloma Faith has opened up on the terrifying ordeal she faced when she was starting out as a singer, saying she had to hit a man to stop him sexually assaulting her

Paloma Faith has revealed she had to hit a man over the head to stop him sexually assaulting her.

In a candid confession, the singer and actress, 42, opened up on the terrifying incident that she said happened at the beginning of her career.

At the time, Paloma was playing smaller venue gigs and revealed she was trying to call her mum from a phone booth when a man tried to force himself in beside her. 

Talking of the scary incident in her new book, Paloma claimed the man tried to kick in the booth door to trap her before getting in with her.

Writing in MILF: Motherhood, Identity, Love and F******, Paloma said: “One day, in my early twenties, I was coming back late at night from a cabaret job I was doing.

“I went into a phone box, very retro, to call my mother, who was always worrying about my safety, and a man kicked the door of the phone box in so I would be trapped and tried to get in it with me. He was gripping my chest and groin and telling me to shhh but luckily I had my wits about me, as well as a small wheelie suitcase. I picked it up and smashed him round the head with it and ran to a local 24/7 shop where I knew the staff, who helped me.”

Sadly, the terrifying ordeal wasn’t the only incident the New York songstress has had to face. She further opened up on two other potentially dangerous situations she was in. In one incident, Paloma admits she still isn’t entirely sure what happened.

She opened up: “Later in life, I was twice in situations where I was date rape drugged luckily they didn’t manage to follow through with it. On one occasion because the people I was with were looking out for me and the other . . . I still to this day am not sure what happened.”

Calling the scary incident “dark times”, Paloma said she woke up with no clothes on in someone’s bed. She added that she doesn’t know exactly what went on at the time.

In a recent chat with the Mirror, Paloma revealed she is dating again after separating from her ex-husband, French artist Leyman Lahcine, in 2022 after nearly 10 years together. She labelled the dating world like the “Wild West”.

The musician said: “I feel like when I was single, before I broke up with my kids’ dad it was like – we could just tell if you had a connection with somebody by chemistry and now it’s sort of bureaucratic. It’s like box ticking.

“But then also there is an argument to say that nature brings you together, and if you’re forcing a connection with people that you shouldn’t be meeting….I mean, I haven’t been on that many. I think I’ve been on five dates since breaking up with my kids dad, and two of them were not through an app.”
