Ahead of the launch of The House of Beckham on June 20, British author Tom Bower shared some impressive information in the work.
He affirmed that David and Victoria Beckham are no strangers to dirty play. The power couple are so distant that they post negative stories about each other in the media.
Confronting each other in the media
A “media war” broke out eight years ago after many reports alleged that David had an affair with his personal assistant Rebeccas Loos.
Since this scandal, the relationship between the Beckhams has continued to decline and has become so bad that the two only maintain a “distant business relationship,” Mr. Tom added.
The deterioration of the relationship was even exposed to the media by the insider himself when David appeared on The Sunday Project in 2018
and said that living with his wife was difficult. Victoria was not informed about what Beckham said in advance and found it “unbelievable”.
“It was like a nuclear bomb had gone off,” Mr Bower told The Mirror. “Victoria was devastated by her husband’s infidelity, while David’s frank disclosure destroyed her attempts to project a happy family image. She broke down in tears and asked why David had embarrassed her.”
“Worse still, why couldn’t David understand the consequences of his impulsive actions? She complained and continued to ask why he had become an enemy of her ambitions. There was no immediate answer to that and Victoria fled to a hotel in Baden-Baden for two days.”
According to the author, a Victoria publicist told a reporter that the former Spice Girl was “full of rage and blame” after learning what her husband had said in the interview. Victoria was later seen looking upset in Australia.
After these developments, the Beckham couple’s media war became clearer. “Reflecting the acrimony between the Beckhams, the two publicists began to take sides, rather than cooperate in promoting their own clients. Both sides fed negative stories about the other to journalists close to them,” Bower writes.
Multiple arguments
The couple have had previous arguments in the media. One was in 2016, when on a family vacation, Victoria reportedly told her children that “Daddy is not a cheater.”
At the time, Victoria was living with her children in London while building her fashion label, while David was working in Miami. The distance seemed to have strained the couple’s relationship.
“During London Fashion Week that year, Victoria invited Beckham back to London for dinner… By the end of the ceremony, she said she would rather David had stayed in America and never come,” Bower says. Some people have said the two had a heated argument.”
David then made a public appearance when he boarded a late-night flight to New York.
Another tense moment was recorded in 2017. This time at Glastonbury, England, when David arrived a day before the rest of the family and partied until 5 a.m. with the models.
“Victoria, accompanied by her team, drove a golf cart through the campers to the VIP area. She was furious that her husband wasn’t returning her calls. David finally showed up. Within seconds, they were in a heated argument,” Bower wrote when Victoria arrived the next day.
Despite the arguments, the two stayed together, and Bower said they did so for a reason. “They support the family brand,” Bower wrote. The family is now worth $778 million.
In addition to The House of Beckham, the couple also opened up about their marital troubles in the Netflix documentary Beckham. In addition to David’s rise from working-class background to global football star, Victoria also admitted in the film that they “turned against each other” at the most tense moments in their relationship. David also said: “I don’t know how we got through those moments.”
