BBC Breakfast took a frosty turn today as Ben Thompson snapped at weather presenter Carol Kirkwood.
Carol was in the studio for a change, presenting her weather report in the same room as hosts Ben and Sally Nugent – but unfortunately she didn’t have good news to deliver, according to The Express.
Sally questioned Carol whether she’d be “singing”, clearly in a good mood for a Wednesday morning (August 21), however Carol was quick to cut her down, replying: “You might not be singing too much about the weather when you hear what I’ve got to say, Sal.
“The weather for the next few days is – I’m trying to think of a polite way to put it… not great.”
Not matching her energy, Ben then snapped: “Okay done, that’s it. We don’t need any more.”
Sally seemed a bit more understanding, echoing: “Not great. That’s the technical term for it.”
Carol’s weather report promised “wet and windy weather”, along with the “risk of flooding and disruption” across the country.
Noticing this year’s summer is quickly slipping away from us, Sally commented: “Now Carol, it’s August and it does feel quite autumnal doesn’t it?”
Seeing light in the darkness, Carol responded: “It absolutely does, that’s a brilliant way to describe it this week Sal, yes.
“The weekend’s not looking quite as horrible as it’s going to be for the next couple of days for the rest of the country, and the south seems a little bit drier than the north.”
Sadly not all of her report was so positive, as Carol promised: “Dry weather for some to start with, some brightness around; but through the morning rain’s going to romp in across Northern Ireland, Scotland, northern England and north-west Wales.
“Some of this rain will be heavy,” she warned, “and accompanied by gusty winds.”
But Carol was keen to get her own back later in the show, as Ben vowed pictures of him attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour will never be seen by the public. He swore: “No-one will see those pictures, ever!”
Carol snapped back: “That’s what you think, Ben!” as Sally retorted: “We’ve got them all, haven’t we?”
“We have, they might be published,” Carol cheekily threatened.
