Sam Smith shared horrifying obsessions after he tore his ACL in a terrifying skiing accident, and he might even permanently lose the ability to walk normally.

Sam Smith has opened up about a horrific skiing accident which left them traumatised and unable to walk.

The singer, 32, who goes by the pronouns they/them since coming out as non-binary in 2019, hadn’t addressed the incident until now.

However, they were seen walking around New York City in January with a cane.

During a podcast interview released on Thursday, the singer revealed they had to be rescued from a ski slope after tearing their ACL in an accident earlier this year.

Sam explained that the incident caused ‘permanent damage’ and has now left them feeling very ‘anxious’ as they focused on ‘mental stuff’ for the last seven months.

Speaking on the BBC Sidetracked podcast, Sam said: ‘I’ve been really focusing on my mental stuff for the last seven months because I actually broke my ACL.’

They then described the moments leading up to the horrific incident: ‘I completely ripped my ACL. I was skiing. I was an idiot and went on a black slope on the second day.’

Sam then told how they were taken off the slope ‘in a blood bag’, adding: ‘It was the worst. It’s a permanent thing.’

The hitmaker also admitted that the damage left them unable to walk for an entire month.

They said: ‘I decided to go down the non-surgical route but I couldn’t walk for a month on this leg and it was awful.’

Sam added: ‘It was the first time I’d ever not been able to move and I was holding onto a bit of weight. I was very anxious. I used it as an excuse to get my s**t together.’

Despite the injury, Sam is set to return to the stage in August for their headline performance at the BBC Proms.

They announced earlier this year that the singer was to perform at the event and claimed the upcoming show will be ‘entirely appropriate for the festival’.

The comment comes after Sam put on a raunchy performance at the BRIT’s in 2023 and garnered over 100 Ofcom complaints over ‘devil worship’ and a passionate kiss.

The hitmaker performed their single Unholy along with Kim Petras, also 30, at London’s O2.

Sam performed the song dressed as the devil, complete with horns coming out of their hat, a similar look which sparked the ire of viewers at the Grammys the week before.

Moreover, two backing dancers enjoyed a snog at the end of the performance.

There were groups of other backing dancers around them who all joined in with the very sexy dance moves.

A spokesperson for Ofcom told MailOnline: ‘We received 106 complaints about The Brit Awards on ITV1 on 11 February.’

‘The majority of complaints related to Sam Smith’s performance, with the remainder about the use of offensive language and consumption of alcohol.’

It came just a week after Grammy viewers slammed Sam and Kim over their ‘satanic’ performance of Unholy.

Sam was seen wearing satanic headgear in the horror movie-inspired performance, viewers flocked to social media to share their frustrations about the ‘demonic’ themes.

One tweeted: ‘I know we on the right probably use the word satanic too often but this performance from Sam Smith is literally a tribute to Satan.’; ‘You don’t have to be super religious to be disturbed by that Sam Smith devil-worshiping performance.’

‘That Sam Smith performance was weird I had to look away like why artists so obsessed with the devil????’; ‘How you go from those tributes to Sam Smith dressed as a devil?’,; ‘That devil worshipping performance was trash. And it’s been done so many times. I’m disappointed af.’

While another frustrated music fan added: ‘I’m really so sick of the satanic and demonic references…even with the hypocrisy — I still wanna know WHY Nicki, Sam Smith, Lil Nas X, and so many others reference the devil.’
