Rihanna might have gone down in Met Gala history with her meme-spawning 2015 gown, but it sounds like the singer was pretty nervous about wearing the bold yellow look.
Five years ago, Rihanna stunned onlookers at the annual fashion event when she walked up the famous museum’s steps wearing a 55lb yellow masterpiece.
With a 16-foot train, designed by Chinese couturier Guo Pei.
And while the look has continued to hit headlines and been made into countless pizza-themed memes
(after all, the train does look like it would make the perfect base for toppings), RiRi has revealed she was nervous about what the world would think of the design.
‘I remember being so scared to get out of that car because I felt like, “I’m doing too much.”
I was driving past the red carpet and I was just seeing gowns,’ she recently told Access during an interview about her new Fenty skin collection.
‘I was like, “Oh my god, I’m a clown, people are gonna laugh at me. This is too much.” I thought that. I circled like three times, I’m not even joking. Finally it was like, whatever let’s just go,’ she added.
The entrepreneur had to book a limousine in order to accommodate her gigantic dress, but the dress still proved to be a physical challenge when exiting the vehicle.
She added: ‘The choreography of getting in the car and getting out, we had to choreograph it. Who sits at the door, where does the coat go, where do I sit.’
Unsurprisingly, Rihanna is incredibly happy she went ahead with the canary yellow ensemble. ‘I don’t regret it,’ she stated.
It’s safe to say that RiRi’s Met Gala fashion has gone from strength-to-strength over the years.
She attended one of her first Met Gala in 2007 in a white Georges Chakra gown. Two years later, she opted for a Dolce & Gabbana suit, a black lace Stella McCartney gown in 2011 and a Tom Ford column gown in 2012.
One of our favourite looks of the 32-year-old’s was her crop top Stella McCartney white dress with embellished neckline and epic Catholicism-inspired Margiela pearl and jewel-decorated robe with a matching papal mitre.
