Ed Balls and Ed Davey have a long history together, having both attended Nottingham High School at the same time.

Sir Ed Davey has revealed that politician turned TV presenter Ed Balls has never returned an item he lent him. 

The pair attended the same school in Nottingham with Ken Clarke, who was also an alum, albeit three decades before them.

As such they have a long history together and the incident dates back to that era.

“Ed was at Nottingham High School with me. He was the year below, and I lent him my A-level history notes and he never gave them back.

“But that’s another matter. I mean, it’d be quite nice to have a school reunion with three of us [the two Eds and Kenneth Clarke] around the table. And I think we have quite a lot to chat about,” the Lib Dem leader told Metro.

This isn’t the first time Davey has raised the issue of his history notes. In 2019 he brought the subject up during an appearance on Nick Robinson’s Political Thinking podcast.

Revealing he had given him the medieval history notes which he never saw again he said he wouldn’t hold it against the former Strictly Come Dancing star.

Balls also has a professional history with Davey as he previously enjoyed a career in politics before taking the helm at ITV’s flagship morning show.

His most recent political role was serving as Labour (Co-op) MP for Morley and Outwood, before he left the Commons on 30 March 2015.

After leaving politics he held several roles before finally making his way to the Good Morning Britain studios.

He was initially appointed Senior Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government and also became a visiting professor at King’s College, London.

He was also appointed as the chairman of Norwich City F.C. in December 2015 a role he held for three years until he stood down in December 2018.

Davey was knighted in the 2016 New Year’s Honours List for political and public service.

He has drawn attention to himself during his General Election campaign by participating in a series of stunts which have hit the headlines.

Throughout his campaign he has participated in various activities such as paddleboarding at Lake Windermere, riding rollercoasters at Thorpe Park and even getting a makeover on ITV’s daytime show This Morning.

However, his stunts failed to impress Post Office Horizon scandal victim Lee Castleton who accused him of “buffoonery” on the campaign trail.

Despite the incident with the history notes, Ed Balls and Ed Davey seem to have maintained a friendly relationship over the years. The fact that they both attended Nottingham High School and have a shared history has likely contributed to this.
