According to Jennie Bond, a former BBC royal correspondent, the Duchess of Sussex wants her husband to let go of the past and focus on the future as she views their chapter with the Royal Family as firmly closed.

While speaking to OK! Magazine, Bond commended Meghan for guiding her husband to look forward instead of dwelling on past events, noting: “If Meghan is encouraging Harry to leave the past behind and move on, then I think it is a healthy move. They have made their decision, left the working royal family, and left the UK.”

She added, “Brooding on the perceived injustices of the past and re-living old quarrels is a waste of a life, and I think Meghan sees that.”

Bond noted that it might be “easier” for Meghan to focus on the future since she doesn’t share Harry’s complex history with the royal family, stating: “On the other hand, she doesn’t have an entire and complex history of life in the confines of the royal family to worry about. It’s easy for her to look forward…ensconced as she is in a country and lifestyle she is so used to and clearly loves.”

A source previously told People Magazine: “This is what Meghan and Harry have always wanted – to create their own life. It’s got to feel like an immense relief to get out of the UK and go down their own path.”

However, in his memoir “Spare,” Harry hints at missing aspects of his former royal life, with Bond noting: “In his book, Spare he writes about his fond memories of some of those family gatherings, and it’s only natural that he now misses that connection and perhaps is still considering ways of repairing the damage done in recent years.”

Harry’s friends in the UK have also commented on his reported discontent, noting that things haven’t unfolded as he had hoped.

According to The Times, one of Harry’s oldest pals, who still receives the occasional WhatsApp message from him, said, “He’s an angry boy. Things haven’t turned out how he wanted. I think he misses being over here [in Britain] desperately and wants to be admired more.”

In their Netflix series released in December 2022, Harry expressed contentment with his and Meghan’s decision to move to California, stating, “We are exactly where we’re supposed to be.” However, he also admitted, “I miss the UK.”

Following King Charles II’s cancer diagnosis earlier this year, the duke made a quick trip back to the UK to be with his father. However, their meeting reportedly lasted under 45 minutes.

While reflecting on his swift UK trip during an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Harry said, “The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go to see him, and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”

He added: “Any illness, any sickness, brings families together.”

Reconciliation for Harry may be a long and challenging process, given the potential damage caused by the revelations he made in his memoir and Netflix series.

A source close to the king told The Times, “The problem for the King and other members of the family is the worry that if they have a chat with Harry, it will appear in volume two.”

“How do you regain the trust?” the insider questioned. “I don’t think Harry ever can. But from the conversations I’ve had with the King, I would never say their relationship is irreparable. The King’s capacity to forgive his son is undimmed.”

Amid their strained relationship, friends of William have claimed that the Prince of Wales was upset when Harry and Meghan referred to his wife as “Kate” instead of her preferred name, “Catherine,” even in a get-well message after her cancer diagnosis.

A source who spoke to the Daily Beast described this as an “unnecessary and deliberate irritation,” suggesting it played a role in William and Kate’s decision not to respond to Harry and Meghan’s sympathy messages.

The friend noted, “The fact that Harry and Meghan were unable to bring themselves to use her chosen name, even when they were sending her get-well-soon messages after her cancer diagnosis, was noted. William takes offense at people calling Catherine ‘Kate’ because she has asked to be known as Catherine.”

They added, “It’s a fairly simple wish to respect. I’m sure Meghan wouldn’t like it if William started publicly calling her ‘Meghan Markle.’”
