The 16-year-old worked with Jolie on her new Netflix drama
Maddox Jolie-Pitt has revealed what it was like to work with his mother Angelina Jolie on her upcoming drama First they Killed My Father, and amidst particularly “difficult times” for the family.
The Cambodian-born 16-year-old is credited as an executive producer on Jolie Netflix project, during which he contributed to meetings, prepped for shoots, and helped with the script while Jolie directed.
“I was trying to help wherever I could,” Maddox told People. “[She’s] fun, funny, and easy to work with. She’s a wonder.”
The film is an adaptation of human rights activist Loung Ung’s memoir of the same title, which recalls her harrowing quest for survival as a child amid the rise of the terrifying Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia.
Jolie’s children Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and nine-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox, accompanied the star as she promoted the movie at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this week. Pax also worked as an on-set photographer for the film.
After filing for a divorce from Brad Pitt following their highly-publicised split, Jolie took herself out of the spotlight to focus on her family.
But after a year of healing at home, she says she’s feeling “a little bit stronger”, and the kids are “itching to get out in the world again”.
“I have had my ups and downs. I guess I am a little bit stronger,” the actress continued to the publication.
“We all have our difficult times, but as a mother you also have a responsibility first and foremost towards the kids. They are going through their formative years and everything else comes second to that.
She added: “I haven’t worked for over a year now because they needed me home. We’ve all been a bit in lockdown. I think they’re itching to get out in the world again.”
