Angelina Jolie has shared her pride at the news her eldest daughter Zahara is attending Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Footage of Jolie celebrating at a Spelhouse event is circulating online as she’s pulled in to join in with the “Electric Slide” dance.
The actress also posted her congratulations to her daughter and her new classmates on social media.
Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, adopted daughter of Jolie and Brad Pitt, is the second child in the family to go off to college.
On Sunday, Jolie shared a picture of a group of women, including Zahara, standing in front of a balloon set up, suggesting they’ll be the class of ’26.
“Zahara with her Spelman sisters!” Jolie wrote, “Congratulations to all new students starting this year. A very special place and an honor to have a family member as a new Spelman girl.”
Spelman College is known as a historically Black, women’s liberal art’s college in Atlanta, Georgia. Notable alumni from Spelman College includes politician Stacey Abrams, Pulitzer Prize winner Alice Walker and TV personality Rolonda Watts.
As well as sharing her feelings as a proud parent on Instagram, Jolie got involved with the celebrations for the new students as they danced to the “Electric Boogie” remix. American music executive and Spelman College alumni, Phylicia Fant, shared footage of the Oscar-winning actress joining in the celebrations. The Twitter fan account, @bestofajolie, compiled a collection of all of the footage of Jolie dancing.
Many fans of Jolie sent her messages of congratulations in the comments section on Instagram. Twitter users also highlighted how Zahara and Jolie had chosen a prestigious and “historically Black” university.
“I love how she’s stepping up and doing all of the typical college parent activities. And yay Z going to a HBCU! [historically Black college and university],” wrote @jolie_purr. Meanwhile @bestorossa said, “I luv that Angelina Jolie helped yield her daughter Zahara unto finding a sense of community amongst other blaq girls and I hope her experiences intensify!”
Zahara is Jolie’s third eldest child (of six) and the second known to go to college. Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt was adopted from Cambodia in 2002 and at the age of 18 in 2019, he started college at Yonsei University in South Korea, studying biochemistry.
Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt was adopted from Vietnam in 2007 when he was three years old. He graduated from high school in 2021 but it is unknown whether he attended college.
After Zahara, her three other children are Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, born in 2006 in Namibia, and twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, born in Nice, France in 2008.
Shiloh, 16, recently became a TikTok sensation when videos of her dancing were shared on a dedicated fan account.
Meanwhile, legal drama between the kids’ adoptive parents, Jolie and Pitt, appears to be continuing as they settle their divorce. The former couple owned a controlling stake in the French vineyard and home Château Miraval, but in October 2021 Jolie sold her share in the winery. Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie in June 2022 suggesting she intentionally “sought to inflict harm on” him by selling off her interests
