Tom Bower is a former British journalist and BBC television producer. He is known for his investigative journalism about the lives of celebrities and royals.
The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power is the latest book by the 78-year-old author, “exposing” the truth about the sex,
money and power lifestyle of the most famous couple in the foggy country – Victoria and David Beckham.
Before its official global release on June 20, Tom Bower has “teased” some special chapters in this book. He wrote:
“Victoria Beckham slapped David hard in the face after accusations of his affair with his former assistant. Victoria’s life in Madrid is lonely and unhappy”.
“Despite having everything money could buy, she was isolated. With few friends, she was reluctant to learn Spanish.
Her strict diet, exercise and constant smoking reflected her anxiety,” writes Tom Bower in The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power.
In 2003, the Beckhams’ marriage fell apart when it was reported that David had been having an affair with his personal assistant, Rebecca Loos, while playing for Real Madrid in Spain. However, the 7X football star always denied the allegations. At that time, Victoria and David seemed to “ignore” everything. They put the Beckham brand first, continued to build their careers, earned “huge” amounts of money and raised four children together.
The world had largely forgotten about the scandal until the famous family teamed up with Netflix to release a documentary about David’s life on and off the pitch.
However, the Beckhams’ troubles were not over yet. Writer Tom Bower claimed that David and Victoria had separated in 2016. The former England star was even suspected of accusing his wife and her PR team of waging a media war against him. According to the book, the couple were so estranged that they barely spoke to each other, instead maintaining a “distant business relationship”.
Not only did the book reveal shocking details about the couple’s love life, it also revealed Beckham’s “smartness” in paying personal income tax. Author Tom Bower claims the former Manchester United player is obsessed with money, constantly seeks expert advice and deliberately “dodges the law” to legally minimise his UK tax payments.
David Beckham’s bid for a knighthood from the British Royal Family could be scuppered by the public as his book investigating the footballer’s tax affairs and off-field life continues to be a hot topic.
