Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry is the rave of the moment, and deservedly so. He just set a new NBA three-point record at Madison Square Garden last night as the New York Knicks hosted the Warriors.
Although both teams were still in search of a win, all else did not matter as the headline following the matchup was all about Curry breaking the three-point record.
Perhaps that is good news for the Knicks as no one is focused on their four-game losing streak.
It has been a long time coming, as the anticipation was at an all-time high when he needed only 16 to beat the record.
Unfortunately, it has been a slow run for Steph since then. Nonetheless, it is poetic that it happened at MSG, the arena that has allowed five players to record career-high points so far this season.
Coming into the game, Steph needed only 1 three-pointer to tie Ray Allen’s record, and with seven-plus minutes left in the first quarter, he knocked down two of his first three attempts. As he was about to make history, his parents were on-ground to witness it. Although they are currently going through a divorce, it did not stop either of them from showing up for their son’s record-breaking night. Nonetheless, it was strange seeing them sit far away from each other.
The Warriors called a timeout after his second three-pointer, and Steph immediately started to celebrate. He first shared a moment with his teammates before running into the crowd to hug his father. Steph was full of emotion as he hugged Dell, also giving him the match ball for safe-keeping.
