Mathew Knowles, 72, had been introduced as a music industry expert whose clients have won a combined 30 Grammy Awards.
When the interview began, though, the university lecturer was quick to pick the presenters up on their stats.
He said, “Let’s get the Grammys right. 32 Grammys, Beyonce. Six, Destiny’s Child. One, Solange. One, Le’Andria Johnson.
“How many is that? 30…” he trailed off before Craig Doyle – wagging his finger – hit back, “I was gonna say 40 but we’re not in the classroom!”
The record executive was on the show to promote the Mathew Knowles Scholarship, in partnership with the London College of Contemporary Music.
On the scheme’s official web page, it says “his artists have won a combined 30 GRAMMY Awards” – which explains the mishap.
Telling Josie and Craig how proud he is of both Beyoncé and Solange’s success, Mathew explained: “I pinch myself to see what they’ve accomplished.
“Solange and Beyoncé are the only female siblings that had a number one record in the history of music in the same year. You know, Beyoncé has the most Grammys of any artist.”
Mathew quit his job in neurosurgical sales when Beyonce was ten-years-old to help her become a star.
He went on to manage her hugely popular group Destiny’s Child with Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland.
Mathew stopped working with the mum-of-three in 2011 following a rumoured fall out between father and daughter.
In her 2013 documentary, Life Is But A Dream, Beyonce said it was “difficult” period but concluded they both “knew it was time”.
Mathew is also one of the executive producers of the 2009 movie Obsessed, which stars Beyoncé.
He divorced Beyonce’s mum, Tina Knowles, in 2011 after they were married for 31 years.
Mathew married his current wife Gena Charmaine Avery in 2013 and is also dad to Nixon and Koi Knowles.
