The Louisville stop of international music superstar Beyoncé’s “Renaissance World Tour” at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium Monday night started with a single phrase: ”I love you.”

The words — delivered roughly 65 minutes after the weather-delayed start time of 8 p.m. — kicked off her performance of “Dangerously in Love 2,”

but that’s truly what the two-and-a-half hours of futuristic glamour and amplified beats that followed felt like:

A love letter not only to the 32-time GRAMMY winner’s fans but to everything from house music and dance, to legendary divas and more.

But before any of that started, fans filtering into the seats were putting on shows of their own. Some simply hyped the crowd while others did cartwheels and death drops made famous by the house and drag scenes,

bringing the sort of energy fueled by the Black and LGBTQIA+ experiences and gilded in metallics, sequins and snapping folding fans that one could only expect to be inspired by the queen of the House of Renaissance herself.

Rebirth was an overarching theme throughout the show as one might expect from a title like Renaissance, but as she went through each act, the multi-platinum phenomenon reinvented herself:

sometimes a cybernetic force from the future, other times a priestess leading her flock through a house of dance.

Overall, the night felt more like a celebration than a concert. Diverse fans were able to come together, dance in their seats, and sing their hearts out in a world of chrome, helping mark Beyoncé’s triumphant return to Louisville in almost a decade.
