Eamonn Holmes made a splash on GB News with an “unusual” start to the show on Wednesday.

Eamonn was joined virtually by his colleague Isabel Webster, who was reporting live from Portsmouth. Noting the morning’s unusual set up, the former This Morning star, 64, told viewers: “Hello there, very good morning to you, good to see you. Wednesday, June 5, this is [the breakfast show] rather unusually with me here in London and Isabel Webster in Portsmouth. Good morning, Isabel.”

Not put off by the unusual dynamic, Isabel chimed in cheerfully: “Good morning. That’s right I am in Portsmouth today at the National Commemorative Event. His Majesty the King, the Queen, and the Prince of Wales will be joined by the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition.”

According to the Express, Eamonn then highlighted the significance of the day saying: “Normandy prepares to honour its legacy and President Joe Biden flies into France.” The veteran news anchor went on to tease the day’s news agenda, adding: “This is going to be a very special day as Portsmouth is the venue for a lot of events to honour troops who crossed the Channel 80 years ago as they headed into the battle of a lifetime. Tell us what is going on, Isabel.”

Isabel then took over, welcoming viewers to Portsmouth, describing it as a city steeped in history: “Welcome everybody at home to Portsmouth this morning, this historic city.” She concluded by emphasizing the city’s connection to D-Day: “Every day is D-Day as soon as you arrive in the city you see all the signs to the D-Day Museum, it is etched into their history.”
