There are fears that a return of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be unpopular among the public and would take away from the work of the Royal Family.
The British Public would be left “appalled” if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attend future royal events, a royal commentator has said.
With rumours swirling about whether The Duke of Sussex will make a return to the UK and his royal duties, especially with his father King Charles still undergoing cancer treatment, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has said that any return would be met with mixed reaction.
According to Fitzwilliams, Prince Harry slotting back into the Royal Family could see a renewed interest in the monarchy, particularly among the Commonwealth populations and people between the ages of 18 and 24.
Fitzwilliams said these groups are “disillusioned with the monarchy” and “might warm to it more” if the Sussexes returned.
However, the royal commentator believes that the majority of royal fans would be dismayed to see the pair return, with many fans turning their backs on the couple after they left the UK in 2020 and made various accusations about the Royal Family in interviews and in their Netflix docuseries.

The commentator said the public dislike was clear when the prince returned for his father’s coronation last year, prompting disapproval from the British public as thousands believed he had no right to be there just months after his book Spare hit the shelves.
Fitzwilliams said: “Most supporters of the monarchy would be appalled at the prospect of the Sussexes appearing at Trooping the Colour or at Christmas.
“Their presence would surely detract from the serious work the royal family does throughout the year too.”
Although many people believe Prince Harry could make a return, sources close to the Duke said he is happy and settled across the pond with Meghan and their two children.
