Amanda Abbington has “no regrets” after taking action against Strictly Come Dancing amid reports a BBC investigation is not going to side with her.
The 50-year-old Sherlock star was a contestants on the 2023 season of the long-running BBC dance competition.
She was partnered with 33-year-old professional Giovanni Pernice and reports initially implied there was a strong friendship between the two.
However, they abruptly dropped out of the series after six weeks – with health issues blamed as the reason for the exit.
But by the beginning of this year, new details painted a troubling picture of abusive behind-the-scenes behaviour that led Amanda to waltz away from Strictly.
She then launched a complaint against the BBC show, accusing Giovanni of abusive behaviour – an accusation he has denied. And recent reports have suggested an investigation is going to clear Giovanni – however, it is now said that Amanda does not regret taking the action.
A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Whatever the outcome of the inquiry, Amanda has no regrets. She knows what went on in that rehearsal room. And she knows it was unacceptable. Amanda has given the BBC all the information she can to help them with the investigation.
“Amanda was greatly reassured during her first interview when she was told by the BBC investigators that her account was fully believed – and now it is down to the corporation to release their findings. Her biggest concern, from day one, has been to ensure that others don’t have to go through the same traumatic experience that she has.”
The source went on to state that Amanda wants the BBC to do more to support and protect the participants of the show. The source also made not of the actress’s resolve, saying she “remains resilient” despite facing intense criticism and abuse, including receiving death threats.
The source said that while such experiences would break many, Amanda has remained determined to stay strong and continue fighting for what she believes is right – even through it is unclear if the BBC will take the necessary action. The Mirror has contacted Amanda’s spokesperson for comment. The BBC declined to comment on this story.
The latest development comes just hours after Givoanni revealed he has landed a role on the Italian version of the show. He shared a video via Instagram announcing the news. Wearing a simple white top, the professional dancer declared: “Hi everyone, it’s me, Giovanni. I hope everyone is having a nice rest of the summer. I’m here in Portofino just finished two fantastic weeks with my family.
