Tom Jones, the 84-year-old judge of The Voice 2024, surprisingly criticizes Simon Cowell of Britain’s Got Talent, saying his show is ‘too harsh’ and ‘too boring’ for viewers

Even at the age of 84, Tom Jones proves that he’s still got it as he sings a duet with fellow judge LeAnn Rimes as the two perform together on this week’s episode of The Voice.

Singing a version of The Everly Brothers’s Let It Be Me, the pair performed for the audience while waiting in-between acts.

For the latest series, new judges LeAnn Rimes, 42, and McFly duo Tom Fletcher, 39, and Danny Jones, 38, joined veterans Sir Tom Jones, 84, and Will I Am, 49.

Children viewership is up by 19 per cent, meaning under 25 viewing has increased by more than a third.

Before the new season began last week, the Sex Bomb singer revealed he wants to protect his voice and stop himself from ageing – by sleeping with tape over his mouth.

And he also revealed that he has influenced the rest of The Voice judges to start doing it too.

Speaking to The Mail he said: ‘I’ve got good health, you’ve got to. I sleep on my side, but I tape my mouth up.

‘I was getting a dry throat so I saw this was supposed to help. I used one on my nose for years to open my airways up.

‘Now I’m older I don’t have to look good in bed. But sometimes I get up to go to the toilet and give myself a shock.’

The Voice coach, also took a swipe at the Britain’s Got Talent judge’s approach to contestants and told MailOnline: ‘Well those kinds of talent shows take it too far. Simon Cowell has done that.

‘You know, by saying, “Why are you on this show? What makes you think you can sing? Who told you you can sing”. I mean… Jesus.

The singer said: 'It really bothered him [Olly], he didn't like it. He's married now and has a kid, so his life has changed. But it definitely bothered him.'

‘The difference between The Voice and other talent shows is, they can sing. They’ve got rid of those who can’t sing before the first auditions.’

Tom also revealed that his close friend Olly Murs was ‘really bothered’ to no longer be on the show after he was axed after six years.

At the time, Olly revealed his departure wasn’t amicable as it was thought the decision came from producers wanting to attract younger audiences by signing new judges.

Tom said: ‘We’ve both been on the road, but when it happened we talked quite a bit. He didn’t want to leave, he loved doing the show.
