Rihanna surprised fans on April 21 when she updated her social media profile photos for the first time in ten years.
The singer updated her social media profile photo for the first time since 2014. Originally, the picture was of her alter-ego, Rhenna, a simple stick-figure depiction of herself.
Its origins are unknown, but the image quickly became synonymous with Rihanna’s online presence.
In 2015, the “Lift Me Up” singer was spotted wearing a pendant version of her famed alter ego, and the year after, she was plastered all over her social media posts.
Following her 2016 AMA performance, the nine-time Grammy winner began posting edited photos of her performance with the Rhenna sticker, encouraging fans to make their own edited images.
Rest assured, the new profile photo has yet to abandon the beloved icon completely. Though her face is not visible, you can see her stick-figure hand holding what has been revealed to be Fenty Beauty’s latest product, Soft’Lit Luminous Foundation. Fenty Beauty’s Instagram profile photo boasts the unedited version. The new release is scheduled to drop on April 26.
Fans still await new music from the “Kiss It Better” singer. On April 11, Rihanna took the stage at CinemaCon to promote The Smurfs Movie, scheduled for a Valentine’s Day release in 2025. She will portray Smurfette, who has previously been voiced by Katy Perry and Demi Lovato. Aside from providing her voice-acting talents, Rihanna will also contribute original music for the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Lift Me Up,” a promotional song for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2023 Academy Awards and Golden Globes.
Rihanna’s last album, Anti, was released in 2016. Met with critical acclaim, the album went platinum two days after its release. The project created hits, such as “Work” featuring Drake, “Needed Me,” and “Love on The Brain” and was nominated for six Grammys in 2017.
While the singer has yet to reveal when new music will be released, fans can look forward to new products from her Fenty-related endeavors, including, but not limited to, Fenty Beauty, Savage x Fenty (lingerie), and Fenty Skin. You can follow her on Instagram and X to keep up with Rihanna’s latest projects. Music-related merchandise is available for purchase on her website.
