Inter Miami was founded on January 29, 2018, with former football star David Beckham as president and co-owner with businessmen Jorge Mas and Jose Mas.

“In the 6-year journey to establish Inter Miami Club, the road to success as it is today, David Beckham and the team’s co-owners did not walk on a path of roses. They went through a process that lasted many years to be able to establish the team, thanks to a clause in the contract when David Beckham was still playing for LA Galaxy Club. Thereby, allowing the famous English player to have the right to buy a franchise to establish a club in the MLS with a modest amount of only 25 million USD after retiring”, AS expressed. “The choice of Miami, the team name and the official pink jersey, all came from David Beckham’s idea. But not everyone supported it.
They also struggled to find support from local authorities to be able to build a temporary stadium like the current DRV PNK stadium in Fort Lauderdale, 48 km from Miami, with a capacity of only 18,000 people (increased to 21,000 people since Messi’s arrival in July 2023).
While the ambition of David Beckham and the club’s co-owners is to build an official stadium for Inter Miami with a capacity of 25,000 seats near Miami International Airport, along with “5-star” amenities such as a system of restaurants, hotels and parks. It was not until March 2020 that this project was approved and is being implemented, expected to be completed in 2025.
