Eamonn Holmes is understood to have reassured his former partner Ruth Langsford that he is not set to get wed following reports that he was engaged.
Earlier this year, the former This Morning presenters confirmed they were divorcing after more than a decade.
Eamonn is now involved with 42-year-old Katie Alexander, who sparked engagement rumours in recent days after brandishing a sparkly diamond ring on her hand.
The Northern Ireland star has since quashed engagement rumours, though it is thought he is ‘in it for the long haul’ with Katie.
A source told MailOnline that Eamonn reached out to Ruth to confirm there was no truth in the speculation.
‘There are other people in this,’ they told the publication, ‘And I know Eamonn had to message Ruth to say there was nothing in the engagement speculation.’
They added that Eamonn was conscious of hurting Ruth’s feelings, making him hesitant to go public with his relationship despite Katie’s wishes.
‘Katie just wants to get it over and done with but Eamonn is less keen because he doesn’t want to hurt Ruth’s feelings,’ the insider shared.
Last month it was revealed that Ruth was ‘not ready to find love again‘ despite previously ‘considering getting back into dating.’
It is understood the Loose Women panellist had initially toyed with the idea of going back into the dating world, however she ‘doesn’t feel ready’ according to the Mirror source.
‘If truth be told, she has been left reeling after seeing Eamonn get close to a new woman,’ the source revealed.
According to the source, Ruth’s friends have a ‘long list of men’ they’d like to set her up with to try and help with the 64-year-old’s ’emotional rollercoaster’.
‘There have been moments where she has been down, thinking that she would probably never meet another man at her age. But her pals have told her that is ridiculous and simply not true,’ the source added.
