Giovanni Pernice had vowed to get his ‘best friend’ Anton du Beke’s initials tattooed on his wrist – but only on one condition.

The big promise ex-Strictly star Giovanni Pernice had made was dependent on Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain winning big at this year’s National Television Awards (NTAs).
The pair’s show, which saw their native Spaniard co-star Gorka Marquez fly out to join them for a traditional Basque sports session, had been nominated in the Factual Entertainment category. However, Giovanni was in for a crushing disappointment as the show didn’t make the shortlist which was published today.
Hyping himself up in expectation of receiving the award, he’d previously taken to Instagram to share a video vowing he’d have Anton’s name tattooed on his wrist if the pair won. Now, however, the disappointed dancer has deleted the promise from his social media page altogether.
He isn’t the only one to be nursing his wounds emotionally today, as other huge shows including Amanda Holden and Alan Carr’s Italian Job show have also been axed from the final shortlist. Instead, it’ll be Clarkson’s Farm, Gogglebox, Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out, The Martin Lewis Money Show Live and The Yorkshire Vet which are all still in with a chance of winning.
Despite Giovanni losing out, his pal Anton hasn’t been shut out altogether, as he’s made the shortlist in a separate category – that of “Expert”. The judge will be up against David Attenborough, Kaleb Cooper, Martin Lewis and Torvill and Dean at next month’s ceremony.

Meanwhile, scandal-hit Strictly hasn’t been penalised too much when it comes to public popularity, if the nominations list is anything to go by.
Besides Anton’s nomination, Strictly host Claudia Winkleman has been nominated in the Best TV Presenter category, though that could also be a nod to her hosting the electrifying psychological game show The Traitors.
Strictly has also received a mention in the Best Talent Show category, alongside Masterchef, Great British Bake Off, The Voice UK and Britain’s Got Talent.
There’s everything still to play for in some stars’ cases – but Giovanni has been dealt a bitter blow.

That’s despite his show with Anton being hugely popular, with audiences delighted to see him party his way around Benidorm.
They also saw a terrified Giovanni battle his fear of heights to conquer a trail along the steep walls of a narrow gorge.
The Caminito del Rey was once branded the “most dangerous walk in the world”, but it’s since been upgraded for safety reasons and is now almost risk-free.
The par also reignited their passion for dance in the birthplace of flamenco, Granada, after arriving in the region in a hot air balloon, and even put on a performance to more than 30,000 people at a festival in Bilbao.
