Jennifer Lopez’s split from Ben Affleck should be pretty painless, according to the divorce lawyer who helped handle Kanye West’s break-up with Kim Kardashian.
With rumours JL-o and Ben didn’t have a prenuptial agreement in place, Ye’s former legal representative says he “sincerely doubts” that.
The couple called it quits on their second anniversary after their second attempt at building a life-long relationship.
But with everything crumbled, experts tell the Mirror what’s next for the Jenny from the Block hitmaker and Hollywood actor now they’re no longer Mr and Mrs. In an exclusive chat, Kanye’s ex-lawyer details what’s “off-limits” now the famous pair are no more.
Chris Melcher, partner of Walzer Melcher & Yoda, who clashed with Ye before he stopped working with the controversial Bound 2 rapper before him and Kim Kardashian had officially wrapped up their divorce, is no stranger to an A-list break-up.
In fact, he deals with them all the time, and with other famous clients including Dawson’s Creek actress Katie Holmes, he knows exactly how Ben and Jennifer’s divorce will play out. Speaking to the Mirror from Los Angeles, he explained: “Ben and Jennifer have been through marriages and divorces before, so I find it hard to believe there is no prenup.
“While they each have considerable assets acquired before marriage – which would be off-limits in the divorce – let’s not forget they bought a $60 million Beverly Hills compound. They may have ongoing streams of income from projects worked on during marriage, which could be community property without a premarital agreement.”
Chris continued: “It was also important for Ben and Jennifer to protect the inheritance rights of the children each of them has from prior relationships. I sincerely doubt they married without a premarital agreement. Given their considerable independent wealth and no joint children, the divorce should be relatively easy to sort out.”
In conclusion, Melcher revealed: “In my experience in dealing with high-profile couples, a settlement is reached before the divorce is announced. This tactic allows the parties to have more control over how the split is messaged to the public.”
It comes after news Jennifer has put her foot down when it comes to their divorce petition. According to MailOnline, JL-o has requested her name is restored to Jennifer Lynn Lopez, dropping the Affleck name. The couple first got hitched in a Las Vegas ceremony at A Little White Wedding Chapel in July 2022, before saying ‘I do’ once again a month later.
Reports suggest the honeymoon period was short-lived for the newlyweds, as 52-year-old Oscar winner Ben was left disgruntled by the media frenzy surrounding their 2022 nuptials. The couple rekindled their romance before walking down the aisle, years after their initial engagement. An insider has that communication between the pair became strained in the immediate aftermath of their wedding during their honeymoon in Lake Como, Italy. The duo exchanged vows just over a year after reuniting in May 2021.
