Tiger Woods spent more than 100M USD to wipe out the PGA Tour’s Netflix series containing content about his life, really?

Tiger Woods is once again not featured in Netflix’s Full Swing, after the fly-on-the-wall series covering the PGA Tour returned for a second season earlier this week.

The Netflix cameras once again capture the chaos surrounding the divide between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, which begun part way through filming of season one.

Whilst the first release in 2023 was well received, the key omission from the production was golf’s biggest name in Woods.

And upon its return to TV screens on Wednesday, fans were once again unable to catch an inside look on the 15-time major champion as he was not involved in filming.

Episode one of the second season covers the opening major event of the year at last April’s Masters,

where Woods was making just his second PGA Tour event in nine months amid his ongoing struggles with injury.

And apart from a couple of walk-by shots, none of Woods’ return and eventual withdrawal from the event was included in the show.

Speaking to Golfweek last month, the show’s executive producer Chad Mumm admitted Woods is a fan of the show, but is yet to commit to being included: “I’ve heard anecdotally that Tiger has watched the show and really likes it,” Mumm said. “So we would love for him to come anytime he wants.”

One man who features heavily in Woods’ absence is his good friend, and business partner Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman – who also played a role in season one – returns amid his central role in the saga between the PGA Tour and their Saudi rivals, having prevailed as one of the latter’s biggest critics.

McIlroy and the rest of the golfing world were left in shock last June, after the Tour announced plans to align with LIV via a deal with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. The four-time major champion had been a constant in the off-course politics up to this point, but even he was taken aback by the June 6 announcement.

Giving his response in the immediate aftermath last summer, he tells the Netflix cameras: “There is a palpable vibe of confusion and anger because we have very little information apart from we have entered an agreement. I don’t know what that agreement is going to evolve.

He went on: “You get dragged into these things from time to time and I’ve been dragged in a big way. But I am almost at the point of like ‘f*** it, do whatever you want to do’.” McIlroy has since taken a step back from the drama ongoing off the course, resigning from his role as PGA Tour player director last November..

Despite Tiger Woods’ absence from Netflix’s Full Swing, the second season of the series continues to captivate viewers with its coverage of the PGA Tour and the ongoing feud with LIV Golf. As fans eagerly tuned into the first episode, they were once again disappointed to see the 15-time major champion missing from the spotlight. The opening episode of the new season delves into last April’s Masters, where Woods was making a highly anticipated comeback to the PGA Tour after a nine-month hiatus due to injury. However, much to the disappointment of fans, the cameras failed to capture Woods’ return and eventual withdrawal from the event, leaving many wondering about his future involvement in the show.Executive producer Chad Mumm revealed in a recent interview with Golfweek that Woods is a fan of the series, but has yet to commit to participating in the show. Mumm expressed his desire for Woods to join the cast anytime he wishes, hinting at a possible appearance in future episodes. In the absence of Woods, his good friend and business partner Rory McIlroy takes center stage in the series, offering his insights into the ongoing feud between the PGA Tour and their Saudi counterparts. McIlroy, a vocal critic of the Tour’s alignment with LIV Golf, found himself at odds with the decision to enter into a partnership with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia last June.Addressing the controversial announcement, McIlroy expressed his frustration and confusion over the lack of transparency surrounding the agreement, stating, “There is a palpable vibe of confusion and anger because we have very little information apart from we have entered an agreement.” Despite his initial shock, McIlroy eventually chose to distance himself from the off-course politics, stepping down from his role as PGA Tour player director in November. As viewers eagerly await the next episodes of Full Swing, the series promises to offer a unique perspective on the world of professional golf and the challenges faced by its top players. Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving feud between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, and the potential return of Tiger Woods to the small screen.
