As part of the recently commenced Play-In Tournament, the Golden State Warriors faced off against the Sacramento Kings at the Golden 1 Center in California.
Although he had recently become the first NBA player to sign with Stephen Curry’s Under Armour brand, Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox had warned his rival and the Warriors that he wouldn’t go easy on them.
Donning a pair of Curry brand shoes, Fox dropped 24 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists during the game. The significant contribution helped him secure a win by a score of 118-94.
After the game, Fox took to his official Instagram account to share a post with his 1.4 million followers. It featured a series of pictures that covered some highlights during the recent matchup.
Fox proceeded to caption the post, writing, “You can’t stop the Reign undefeated in his PE’s”. By mentioning the “PE’s” (Player Exclusives), the 26-year-old made a veiled reference to Stephen Curry.
The latter himself realized that he was the one being talked about. Taking to the comments section of the post, Curry proceeded to write, “I hate that I liked this post”.
However, Fox’s caption wasn’t the first remark he made recently about wearing the sneakers that bore the Warriors’ lead scorer’s name.
Barely a few minutes after the game had concluded, the player engaged in a Q&A session with senior TNT insider Chris Haynes. He highlighted the current irony by stating, “I’m wearing [Steph Curry’s] shoes tonight… With the way the season played out and the games we lost, we were like, ‘Of course we run into Golden State.’”
The Warriors put on a good fight, but it was not enough to overtake the Kings. Stephen Curry, who had come out with 33 points during his previous game, only scored 22. None of his counterparts managed to score higher than him, causing their playoff chances to be left in the dust through a 24-point defeat.
