Avengers 5 has a new title, but that’s not the real news: Robert Downey Jr is back.
However, he’s not reprising his Iron Man role, he will be playing Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, in Avengers: Doomsday and in Avengers: Secret Wars.
During Marvel’s Comic-Con 2024 panel, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige also revealed that the cast of the Fantastic Four.
As well as Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*, would appear in both upcoming movies.
It was also confirmed that Joe and Anthony Russo are back to direct both upcoming movies.
The return of the Russos as directors is not a surprise for fans as it was reported earlier this month that the duo were in talks for a return.
Avengers 5 hasn’t had the smoothest development as original director Destin Daniel Cretton left the movie in November 2023. Michael Waldron – who is also writing Avengers: Secret Wars – took over from Jeff Loveness as writer in the same month.
Following Jonathan Majors being dropped by Marvel in December 2023, it was reported in February 2024 that the movie would no longer go by its original title of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Could we see some major returns in the next two Avengers movies? In April 2024, Robert Downey Jr said that he would “happily” reprise his Iron Man role.
The Russo brothers weren’t quite convinced, but this was before they had rejoined the MCU. “I don’t know how they would do it. I don’t know what the road to that would be,” Anthony said.
Joe added: “I mean, we closed that book, so it would be up to them to figure out how to reopen it.”
